Platteville - Raymond N. Brunton, age 85, of Platteville, died on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville. He was born on Dec. 9, 1915, in rural Platteville, the son of Samuel and Sarah (Wentz) Brunton. Raymond served in the United States Army during World War II in the Army Air Force. He served from 1941 until 1946 in the Pacific Theater, where he was in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. He was united in marriage to Annabelle Ohlert on Feb. 26, 1964, at First Baptist Church, Lancaster, Wis. He was a mechanic at the Kieler Garage for more than 20 years and then he farmed in Harrison township until he retired. He was an avid outdoorsman, and he loved to hunt and fish. He was also a charter member of VFW Post 5274 in Platteville. He is survived by his wife, Annabelle of Platteville; a brother, Cletus (Ileen) Brunton of Platteville; a sister, Agnes Tindell of Lancaster; two sisters-in-law, Violet Brunton of Highland, and Adeline Brunton of Platteville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, John Casper Brunton, on July 17, 1965; four brothers, Nicholas, Eddie, Ambrose and Delvin; two sisters, Cecelia and Viola; and his parents. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Bendorf Funeral Home, Platteville. Pastor Lowell Bush will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster, where there will be graveside military rites by American Legion Post No. 42 and VFW No. 5274. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at the funeral home, or from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Bendorf Funeral Home is serving the family.
