Obituary
Rosa Lee Diggs Ganis, 98, of Southern Pines died February 6, 2020 at the FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst, NC.

Rosa Lee was born May 13, 1921 in Peachland, NC to George Alexander Diggs and Margaret Preslar. The Diggs family were early settlers in Anson County and Rosa Lee was instrumental organizing annual reunions celebrating the rich heritage of the family. Her grand uncle Mome Diggs rode with the famous outlaw Jesse James a fact she was particularly proud of. She was for many years a resident of Waxhaw, NC and longtime member of the Woman’s club in that town. She was active in supporting many local projects including the Andrew Jackson Memorial Museum and the Waxhaw railroad bridge.

Rosa Lee’s greatest joy was the family she raised with her beloved husband Joseph Francis Ganis. The two met on the eve of World War II and married. The marriage lasted over fifty years until Joe’s death in 1994. He served in the USAF for over 26 years and retired as Chief Warrant Officer 4. Rosa Lee was a loving mother, and dedicated wife. She is survived by three of her of five children, George Robert Ganis and wife Christine of Southern Pines, NC, Ann Katharine Ganis of Punta Gorda, FL, and Major Ralph Peter Ganis and wife Lisa Marie of Waxhaw, NC. Grandchildren include; James Frederick Kilday, Ann Meredith Kilday, Katherine Adair Osborne, Jason Joseph and Benjamin Adam Ganis, Maria Dulce Ganis, Martha Taft and thirteen great grandchildren. Rosa Lee was preceded in death by her husband Joseph and two sons Ronald Joseph Ganis and Eugene Diggs Ganis.
