Suggested edit: "On March 7, my sister (Melissa Carlson Armstrong) and her whole family were killed by a tractor-trailer, while innocently sitting in traffic,"

Edgett's sister, Melissa Renee Carlson Armstrong, 26, died on Sunday afternoon, March 7, along with her husband, Edward Dean "Eddie" Armstrong III, 32, and his two children from a previous marriage: Brittany Nicole Armstrong, 10, and Edward Dean Armstrong IV, 6.

The four family members were killed when their car was struck from behind and crushed by a northbound tractor-trailer as the vehicles encountered traffic stopped in both northbound lanes of Interstate 81 near Baileyton, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The family had been returning to their home in Waynesboro, Va., from a visit in Knoxville with Edward Dean "Eddie" Armstrong's family when the rear-end collision occurred.

Emergency & Rescue Squad volunteers and Greene County-Greeneville EMS personnel struggled to reach the victims trapped inside the crushed remains of a small Saturn sedan that was smashed against and beneath the rear of a tractor-trailer.

A second tractor-trailer, which bore heavy damage to the front of its tractor unit, rested against the side of the tractor-trailer rig that had the Saturn sedan smashed against the rear of its trailer.

"This tragic accident took them from us, just one month before my daughter was born. All the families involved have been affected in a way that we will never get over.
