Riley was known for his pure heart and quick wit. In his youth, Riley dedicated much of his time to walking uphill both ways to school in waist-deep snow, or so he told it. An avid golfer in his later years, Riley was a member of Eagles and the Marceline Golf Club. He generally shot for 80 on the course and if it got hotter he wouldn’t play. Riley could fix everything but a broken heart and the crack of dawn and he enjoyed the finer things in life: Lowe’s and a cold beer.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, Riley is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna Lee Cupp (née Fiala); his daughter Misty Cupp Spong and her husband Thomas Nichols Spong; his son Troy Dale Cupp; his five grandchildren: William Chase Spong and his wife Winston Fleishman Spong, Emily Madison Spong, Rylee MacKenzie Spong, Mason Dale Cupp, and Owen Dale Cupp; his siblings Bob Cupp and his wife Goldie, Jack Cupp and his wife Quintine, and Donna Chrisman; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Riley was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and three brothers.
Riley will be laid to rest at the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, https://curealz.org/, in his honor. Arrangements by Delaney Funeral Home, Marceline.
