BIRCHELL GOODRICH HONORED AT SERVICES

Birchell Remington Goodrich, 81, Vernal, died in Uintah Hospital March 26, 1976 of heart failure.

He was born October 21, 1894, Vernal, to George Leonard Goodrich and Marion Vilate Remington. He married Georgia Ann Hughes Gardiner December 31, 1914 in Vernal. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He was a sheepherder and a member of the LDS Church, where he served as a Sunday School Superintendent, YMMIA President, Missionary and ushered at Stake Conferences for 20 years. He held many other positions.

He is survived by his widow, one son and four daughters, Everett H. of Grand Junction, Colorado; Mrs. Herman (Kathleen) DeStefans of Vallejo, California; Mrs. Earl (Afton) Calder, Vernal; Mrs. Stephen (Loma) Stringham, Vernal; and Mrs. Merlin (Guyla) Norton of Vernal. Twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and seven step-children. Three sisters and one brother, George R. of New York City; Mrs. Adolph (Laura) Teeples of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Leslie (Carlie) Duke of Vernal and Mrs. Henry J. (Esther) Armstrong of Tooele.

Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Naples Ward Chapel. Family prayer at the mortuary was given by a nephew. Gawin Goodrich. Prelude and postlude music by Norine Merrell, a violin and piano duet by Lowe and Rhea Goodrich. Invocation was offered by Craig Calder, a grandson.

The obituary was read by Robert Stringham, a grandson; a duet was sung by President and Mrs. Glade Sowards, "That Beautiful Land." They were accompanied by LuAnn Larsen. Speakers were Ashell Manwaring and Ross Merrill. 'That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine" was sung by Verdin Goodrich, Terry and Jay Anderson, accompanied by Norine Merrill. Dorothy Peltier and Daun White sang, "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Eva Hatch.

Benediction was by Gene Allred, a nephew. The grave was dedicated by Carl Gardiner.

Pallbearers were Mark DeStephans, Cody Calder, Kent Stringham, Kelly Goodrich, Jeffrey Norton and Wayne Calder, grandsons. Honorary pallbeares were High Priests of Vernal Stake. The Naples Ward Relief Society took care of the flowers.

Attending from out of town were Mrs. Viola Woods, Mrs. Marion Goodrich, Miss Cleo Gardiner, Jan Stringham, Mr. and Mrs. Kent McCarrell, Miss Jodie Goodrich, Mrs. Laura Teeples, Sidney Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Leatherberry, all of SLC; Mark DeStephens and Gary Goodrich of San Jose, California; Mrs. Esther Armstrong and Mr. and Mrs James Goodrich, Tooele; Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Kidd and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Gardiner; both of Ogden; Mr. and Mrs. Marion Southam, Mrs. Violet Goodrich, Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Hullinger, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Norton, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Foote, Mrs. Gwen Reynolds and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Elvyn Bascom, all of Roosevelt; Mrs. Charles Richardson and Mrs. John Barney, both of Meeker, Colorado.
