Pat was the daughter of Naomi Rose (Kolb) and James Vernon Cockrell. She had two sons, Larry and Steve, by a previous marriage when she met Bill Lackey at a dance at Deuchas Haus in Baltimore, Maryland. They married in February 1957 and had three more children, Diane, David and Suzanne.
