William C. Douthit, 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 2, 2011. Bill was born on December 2, 1914, to Lula Mae and Henry Douthit.

He was known as Bill to friends and family knew him as Papa. Bill received his Bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and worked as a school teacher for many years before serving our country in the Army. He fought in World War II and was the recipient of a Purple Heart.

He got married to Helen Williams before being sent overseas to fight for three years. They were married 36 years before her untimely death. Bill worked at Furrs Foods Grocery in El Paso until his retirement. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Bill joined the Five Points Lions Club in July 1949. He was a Lion for 61 years. During his tenure, he served as Membership Chairman, Lion Tamer & Crippled Children's Committee. He received the Melvin James Award, the highest Lion award given to members, and the Texas Lions Foundation Fellowship award.
