She was a 1938 graduate of Cleburne High School where she won honors in spelling. After graduation she moved to Topeka. Doris' professional career began at Hallmark Cards before going to work as an Auxiliary Police Woman for Sunflower Ordnance for two years. She retired as a bookkeeper for Stauffer Publications after 25 years of service.
After a 9-month courtship, Doris married the love of her life, Arnold "Jim" Cioffi, at Holy Name Catholic Church on July 4, 1944. They were blessed with 67 years of happiness. They enjoyed traveling extensively and had been to all 50 states, as well as five trips to Europe and one trip in which they had an audience with Pope John Paul II. Doris loved to cook, garden, sew and was an avid bowler with many awards.
Doris was preceded in death by seven sisters, Ellen Johnson, Nellie Johnson, Evelyn Johnson, Anna Holloway, Alice Zeeb, Alphie Lewis, and Irene Mannen, and by three brothers, Albert, Art and Clayton Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Jim, and many nieces and nephews.
Doris donated her body to KU Medical Center for research.
