John Newton Wiseman was the son of Rev. Andrew and Hannah (Pine) Wiseman. John married first Elmira Virginia "Ella" Barger, daughter of Logan and Amanda (Campbell) Barger on December 24, 1879. They had Esco Earl and Reno Ray. Ella died on July 11, 1893. John married second on May 16, 1895, Bertha Mae Pyles, daughter of Allen Thomas and Sarah Amanda Pyles. They had the following children: An infant son born & died on January 7, 1896; Ernest Newton born March 21, 1897; Orville Orin born January 22, 1902; Wallace Eldon born August 4, 1904; Viola Mae born June 26, 1906; Sarah Leola born December 19, 1908, Robert Omer born November 30, 1909; Lois Ruth born January 3, 1912. All these children were born near Cadmus, Walnut Township, Gallia County, Ohio where the Wiseman family lived.

John Newton Wiseman was a carpenter and a farmer and installed many of the first telephones in the Cadmus area. For a number of years he and his brother George were undertakers in the Cadmus and Waterloo, Ohio communities. They sold out in 1907 to W. W. Phillips whose descendants are still in that business at Ironton, Ohio. John was also very much involved in the Olive Methodist and the Waterloo, Ohio Methodist campground.
