Lieutenant Colonel John Edward "Ed" Leonard, USMC (Retired), 72, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on January 15, 2020. He was surrounded by his family.

Ed was born on February 24, 1947, to his parents, Blair and Edna Leonard in Barnesboro, Pennsylvania. He was a proud graduate of Penn State University and later earned his Master's degree from George Mason University. Ed served in the Vietnam War and continued to serve in the USMC until his retirement in 1990.

During retirement, Ed enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports. He took pride in coaching his two oldest grandsons' baseball teams.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Blair Thomas Leonard and Edna Turner. He is survived by his wife, Susan Leonard; his children, Michael Leonard (Emily Leonard) and Amy Stanton (Jimmie Stanton, III); and grandchildren, Connor, Hunter, Hudson, Hayden, and Hannah.

The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, at 1264 N. Great Neck Rd., Virginia Beach, VA on Saturday, January 18, 2020, from 1:00 P.M to 2:30 P.M. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.
