Arthur (Tad) Griffith Latimer Jr. 73, passed away June 29, 2000, at the Veterans Medical Center in Reno, Nevada. He was born October 12, 1926, in Seattle, Washington, to Arthur G. Latimer and Mary Dudley Walker Latimer. Ted met his wife Kitty, (Catherine Rees) while he was visiting in San Francisco where his sister Corinne and Kitty were residing. They were married on June 24, 1947, and became the parents of two daughters, Leanne and Tara, while residing in Seattle and Bellevue, Wash. In 1961, they moved to Menlo Park, and later Atherton, where they lived until their daughters were grown. They then moved to Australia and lived in several different locations, returning to the Palo Alto area once again, prior to retiring to Blairsden-Graeagle, where they lived the past seven years.
During the first years of World War II, Tad trained ski troops in alpine skiing at Mt. Rainier. He dearly loved alpine skiing and was an alternate to the U.S. Olympic Ski Jumping Team. Following graduation in 1944 from Garfield High School in Seattle, Latimer was enrolled in the U.S. Navy V5 Officer Training program at Whitman College, where he served two years. He completed, his college education at the University of Washington and graduated in 1947 with a degree in Business Administration. He was a former partner of Merrill Lynch, and was on the Board of Governors of the New York Securities and Exchange Commission.
Upon his retirement in 1990, Latimer turned his hobby of making silver fishing lures into a small business called the "Latimer Lure Company." Tad loved fishing, making Graeagle a natural choice in which to retire. He and his wife Kitty were members of the Graeagle Community Church. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and Overlake Golf and Country Club, Bellevue-Medina Washington; the Sharon Heights Golf and County Club, Menlo Park; Southport Golf and Country Club, Queensland, Australia and the Oak Creek Racquet Club, Palo Alto.
Latimer was preceded in death by his sister, Corinne Latimer Fitzsimmons, and both his parents. He is survived by his wife, Kitty Latimer, of Blairsden-Graeagle; daughters, Leanne Latimer Troy of Los Gatos, Tara Latimer Brock, of Bend Oregon, and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. July 13, 2000, at the Graeagle Community Church located on Johnsville Road in: Graeagle. Private inurnment will follow the services at the Mohawk Cemetery.
