Jacob B. Moats (Motz) is likely buried here next to his wife Catherine [nee Lautenschlager] Moates (1777-1849), although his grave marker has not yet been discovered. Her gravestone reads: 72 years, 1 month, 13 days which calculates perfectly to her birth/baptismal record of 17 Feb 1777. Jacob B. Moats' birth date was calculated from the newspaper reported age of death of 81 years, 4 months, 29 days on 19 Apr 1859 which yields a birth date of 21 Nov 1777.

The couple married 2 Jun 1801 at First Reformed Congregation at Lancaster, PA. They lived in Lampeter Township, Lancaster County and some time before 1810 the couple migrated, along with his in-laws, to Beaver Creek, near Funkstown, Washington Co., MD By 1830 the family had moved west of Hagerstown near the Conococheague Creek. Jacob B. Motz died in 1859 across the state line in Montgomery Township, Franklin County, PA.
