Adams, 1912-2009, KINGS MOUNTAIN

Our mother, Mattie Sims Adams, 97, of Grove Ridge, Kings Mountain,
widow of William Noel Adams, left her earthly home to be with her Lord
on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009. She was born Thursday, Jan. 11, 1912, in Lincoln
County to the late Everett and Eva Gastineau Sims. Mattie was a farmer and
homemaker, a beautician, a former employee with Cowden's Manufacturing
in Lancaster and the Five & Dime Store for Vernon Floyd. She was the oldest
living member of Pond Missionary Baptist
Church and will always be remembered for her talent and passion for making
quilts. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four
sons; Raymond, Floyd, Lloyd and Frank Adams; and two great-grandsons. She
is survived by her children, Fama (Dallas ―Peanut‖) Patterson and Freda (Mack) Phillippe, both of Kings Mountain, Freeman (Jean) Adams of Lancaster and Tootsie (Gilbert) Gooch of Waynesburg; a brother, Ray Sims of Ohio; a sister, Ora Potter
of Corpus Christi, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 39 greatgrandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and 10 step grandchildren. An Appreciation of Life service will be
2 p.m. Tuesday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home, by Bros. Chester Cornett and
Eric Douglas with burial to follow in Grove Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Danny Roberts, Doug Gooch, Billy Phillippe, Bub Patterson, Joe Hixon and Buster,
Justin, Jeff and Kendall Adams will serve as the pallbearers.
