Arthur Frank Van Erem was born October 26, 1920 in Summit, South Dakota: the son of Frank and Mildred (Farmer) Van Erem. He graduated from East Waterloo High School in 1938.

Arthur was united in marriage on June 29, 1944 to Gertrude Ysen at the St. Petri Lutheran Church in Gary, Minnesota.

During 1940-1945, Arthur was enlisted in the Army. He was in the 34th Red bull division during WWII. Arthur was awarded the Bronze Star during WWII.

He worked for the Waterloo Industries for 35 years.

Arthur enjoyed fishing, woodworking, metal work, reading, watching the Cubs and spending time with his family and friends.

Arthur passed away on January 25, 2020 at Allen Memorial Hospital at the age of 99.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude; parents; son Arthur Jr; and 4 sisters.
