McGregor, Ia. - Fred Kuehl, 36, McGregor was instantly killed early Thursday when the automobile in which he was riding struck a horse on Highway 52, the accident occurring 13 miles west of here.
Five other persons were riding in the car, three of whom were injured, one seriously. Miss Bernice Henry, 25, was severely cut about the face and is a patient in the McGregor Hospital. Raymond Trygg, 25, driver of the car, and Mrs. Kuehl, 34, suffered minor cuts and bruises. Bill Hendrickson, 24, and Miss Avon Turner, 22, escaped unhurt. All are from McGregor.
The party was returning from a dance at Lakeside Pavilion at Guttenberg when the horse, owned by Walter Matt, wandered onto the highway, according to Clayton County Sheriff E.W. Carlsen. Trygg told the sheriff he was driving about 50 miles an hour at the time. The horse was thrown into the air, striking and shattering the windshield. It was killed instantly. The car, a coupe with rumble seat, was demolished.
Passing motorists brought the injured to McGregor but Kuehl was dead when the hospital was reached. His death was attributed to a broken neck. Sheriff Carlsen said no inquest would be held.

McGregor, Ia. - Funeral arrangements were completed Friday for Fred Kuehl, 36, of McGregor, who was instantly killed early Thursday when the automobile in which he was riding struck a horse which wandered onto Highway 52 near here. Mr. Kuehl suffered a broken neck in the crash, an examination disclosed.
The last rites will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Pilkington Funeral Home here with the Rev. Glen McMichael, M.E. Pastor, officiating.
Mr. Kuehl was born Oct. 17, 1903 at Davenport, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kuehl. He was graduated from Davenport High School and later he attended Brown Business College there.
On Aug. 17, 1929 he was marred to Alice Bachtell of McGregor at Mt. Carroll, Ill. The next three years he was employed as a salesman in this vicinity for the Bechtel Bonding Company of Davenport and seven years ago he became an employe of the Strand theater here, a position he had since held.
Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Patricia, 8; and a sister, Miss Ella Kuehl of Des Moines.
