Benjaman Thomas Atherton was born in Guernsey County, Ohio, Aug. 26, 1839, and moved to Clay County, Illinois in 1866, and was joined In matrimony to Emaline Neff July 22, 1870, to which union two children were born, Ella Atherton Dobbs and Carry Atherton Robertson.
The subject of this sketch was converted in the winter of 1876 at Halterman school house and joined the U. B. church under the pastorate of the Rev. Hillis in which faith he lived a faithful consecrated earnest christian till the Master said, "It is enough; come enter into this rest prepared for the faithful................

Bro. Atherton who departed this life Sept. 18, 1908, being 69 years and 28 days old. He leaves a heart broken companion and two loving daughters and four grand children, also one brother and a host of friends to mourn his sudden departure.
