Roy Kenneth Thornhill, age 82 of Bewleyville, KY died Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. He was born in Woodrow, KY on March 2, 1937, son of the late Lee and Mattie Aldridge Thornhill. Roy was a veteran of the United States Army and following his service he began working for Brown and Williamson, a career that lasted over 18 years. He loved boating, hunting and fishing on Rough River Lake. After work on Friday, he would take his family to the lake so that he could wake up there on Saturday morning and stay until Sunday evening. He built a pontoon which his family and friends used for many years. One of his prized possessions was a 1968 Runabout – turquoise in color because it was his wife's favorite color which carried over to her kitchen appliances. After retiring from Brown and Williamson, he began farming full time – raising tobacco and cattle. Green Valley Restaurant, the social gathering place in Irvington, KY, became a favorite spot for Roy to meet his friends. It wasn't always the food that he went for, but the companionship. Many friendships were made that lasted a lifetime. This circle of friends solved many of the world's problems, but most of all, lasting friendships developed from this meeting place. Roy was a very good man, husband, father and papaw and will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ann who died in 1972, sisters Ruth Tucker and husband Harold and Juanita Sutton and husband Tom.

Roy is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Susan Thornhill of Bewleyville, KY

2 grandsons and their families: Ryan Thornhill and his wife Jennifer and their daughter Grace

Matthew Thornhill and his wife Chelsea

Nephew Mike Tucker (Christy) and nieces Diane Kellems (Craig) and Barbie Smith and her son Sean

A memorial service will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg, KY on Saturday, January 25, 2020
