Resident of Milford Community For Half a Century is Called by Death.
WAS ENGAGED AS HOUSE MOVER
Passes Away at Kankakee After Long Illness; Of Well Known Family.
Elijah R. Odle a resident of Milford for more than half a century, passed away Monday at the Kankakee State Hospital where he had been a patient for several months. Mr. Odle during his many years of residence here was employed as a house mover and also was engaged as a cement worker. He was known throughout the community and many friends regret to learn of his death.
Elijah Roe Odle son of John S. and Elizabeth Odle was born March 14, 1861 in Benton Co., IN, and departed this life, October 23, 1933. Aged 72 years, 7 months and 9 days. The early part of his life was spent near Pine Village, IN.
He was united in marriage to Eliza Jane Thomas on June 30, 1881, having celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary, June 30, 1933. To this union were born nine children: Ben S. Odle, South Holland, IL, Earl E. Odle, Ethel May German (deceased), Daisy J. McFadden, Thomas R. Odle, Edna Peck, all of Milford; Cecil O. Odle of Harvey, IL; Elijah J. Odle Milford, Eliza V. Potts, Sheldon; also fifteen grand children and 1 great grandchild.
Besides his devoted wife and children he leaves two brothers and one sister: W. S. Odle, Milford, J. T. Odle, Veedersberg, IN, and Jeannie Hoffman Marguette, KS and an adopted sister, Mrs. Minnie Moore of Hutcherison, KS.
The funeral service was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Milford M. E. church in charge of the pastor, Rev. Charles Smith. Music was by a male quartet.
The pall bearers were grandsons of Mr. Odle; Omar Odle of South Holland, IL, Roscoe M. of Roseland, Geo. T. James also of South Holland, Norman R. Peck and Raymond Odle of Milford. The following grand daughters were flower girls: Dorothy Peck, Fern, Opal and Sophia Odle. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery.
