He was born March 3, 1916, in Raleigh, NC, the son of the late Hal and Marguerite Worth.
Mr. Worth was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, class of 1938. He was forced to resign from Naval service because of poor eyesight. During WW II, he returned to Naval service as Assistant Naval Attache in Lima, Peru. After a year there, Mr. Worth transferred to sea duty and served in the Pacific in the battles of Leyte Gulf and Okinawa.
In 1952 Mr. Worth returned to Raleigh, NC to work in the family lumber business. In 1975 he married Edith Allison Worth and lived in New London, New Hampshire until they moved to the Wilmington area where they have resided since.
Surviving are his wife Edith Allison Worth; five children, Reid Worth of Boyles Hot Springs, CA, John Worth of McLeod, MT, Richard Worth of Churchton, MD, Laura Strange of McKinleyville, CA, and Charles Worth of Boseman, MT; the mother of the children, Amonete Gordon of Boseman, MT; one brother, Colvin Worth of Raleigh, NC; sister Mrs. Marguerite Penick of Southern Pines, NC; four step-children, Henry Fletcher of Long Island, NY, Robert Fletcher of Warner, NH, Roger Fletcher of Webster, NH; and many grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrews On-The-Sound by the Rev. Richard G. Elliott.
