FORMER LEMOORE WRITER PASSES AT SOUTHERN HOME

Lemoore and Kings county friends have received word of the death of Sarah Pratt Carr former Lemoore resident who died at her home in Los Angeles December 24, following a short illness. Mrs. Carr was close to 86 years old at the time of her death and was very active until a few days before her death.

Mrs. Carr is remembered by the real pioneers of Kings county as a woman of rare talent, industry and zeal for civic improvement. She was a natural leader of women's groups and one of the first in the valley to appreciate the value of organization to promote educational and cultural advantages.

Mrs. Carr's father was connected with the Stanfords and Huntingtons in the railroad business when California was only a baby state. She has written several books during the latter part of her life. One of her best known books is "The Iron Way," which she only recently revised, adding several new personal touches that she has gleaned from people since it was published a few years ago.

Mrs. Carr founded the Lemoore Alpha club, a club for young girls, and also organized Lemoore Woman's club, both clubs which are still active.

Funeral services were held Saturday at two o'clock in Los Angeles at Edwards Brothers' Colonial Mortuary. Surviving relatives are a daughter, Mrs. Mary Carr Moore of Los Angeles; sisters, Mrs. Leslie M. Clark, Mrs. Carlin Eastwood, both of Los Angeles; and a brother, B. N. Pratt of Oakland. She is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
