There are the wills of many Benjamin Johnsons who died about the same time in Ohio, in Fairfield, Harrison, Madison counties. Which of these might be ours is unknown. In an 1830 census for Madison, Geauga Co, Ohio, there is a free white male under 5, possibly James M., a male 5-9, possibly John A, a male 30-39 (Benjamin) a female under 5 (Eliza Jane) and a female 20-29, Benjamin's wife. No slaves are listed.

He went to Ohio either before or shortly after the birth of Chapman Johnson, his illegitimate son by Adaline Johnson, his first cousin, and probably died there.

Judging by the naming order of his children is could be his wife was an Augustine, father John Augustine and her mother Eliza Mallory, since neither of these surnames show up in the Johnson line. Furthermore, it would be odd to give a girl the first name of Augustine.
