Norbert William "Nubs" Bruns, 68, of Denver, died on Thursday, July 19, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of natural causes.

He was born on January 7, 1939, on the family farm near Denver, son of Erwin and Viola Meier Bruns. He married Patricia Warrick on December 21, 1968, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Denver.

He graduated from Denver High School in 1956. During his high school years he began work on the family farm. Upon graduating he entered the U.S. Army and served his country until his honorable discharge on October 28, 1963.

Following discharge he returned to the family farm southeast of Denver and worked for more than 30 years. Mr. Bruns retired from farming in the late 1990s. In his later years he was night manager at Benders Super Value.

He enjoyed bowling, working in the garden and most of all visiting with people. One of his greatest memories was his role in the movie "Country." His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Scott of Minneapolis and Chad (Molly) of Harlan; a daughter, Kimberly Bruns of Denver; four grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Bruns of Minneapolis and Shirley (Herb) Buenzow of Cedar Falls; and a brother, Eugene (Carol) of Noblesville, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Viola, and a sister, Elaine Angelow.

Services at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Denver.

Memorials may be directed to Community Lutheran School, Readlyn, or St. John Lutheran Church, Denver.
