Services for Mellie Joyce Thorn, 89, will be held at First Methodist Church of Palestine with Rev. Alex Lupo officiating; burial will follow at Palestine City Cemetery.
She grew up in Waco, Texas and married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Thorn, on October 8, 1949.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years and a grandson, Scott Smith.
She is survived by her two sons, Terry M. Thorn (Jessie) and David Steven Thorn (Cathie); grandchildren, Brian Thorn (Jamie) and Jonathan Thorn (Toni), Brandon Jayroe (Daisy), Chance Nichols (Trisha), Ted Nichols (Jennifer) and John Thorn (Sarah); and fifteen great grandchildren.
Mrs. Thorn was a lifelong avid genealogist and president of the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved her church where she was an active member and she loved and greatly enjoyed her family, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and church family.
Arrangements are entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
