ELLSWORTH – James A. Bickford, 74, died Sept. 1, 2004, at an Ellsworth healthcare facility after a short illness. He was born Sept. 21, 1929, in Newburgh the son of Ulysses S. Bickford and Sadie Ellen Loring. James Bickford has resided in the Ellsworth area since 1984, most recently at 76 Park Street. He worked at MDI Workshop in Bar Harbor, until his retirement in 1994. James spent his younger years in the areas of Newburgh, Old Town, Brooks, and Appleton where he engaged in farm work. His family and friends and staff and his cat George, all of whom he entertained with stories, rhymes and musical train whistles, will miss him. James A. Bickford is survived by his brother Sheldon Bickford of Etna; a sister, Helen Swett of Carmel, and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept 7, 2004, at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Crosthwaite, pastor of the Faith Community Fellowship, officiating. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
