Wiloydean Romans Nowlin was born Nov. 27, 1930 to Pete and Carrie Mae Romans in Cumby, Texas.
The Family welcomed brother Willie Alvin 8 years later. The family moved to Commerce when Wiloydean was 10. They were a farming family, and Willie said Wiloydean would rather hoe cotton or corn all day than cook lunch. She played basketball at Commerce High. Close to home she caught the eye of Bob (Robert Henry) Nowlin.
She graduated High School on May 29, 1948 and married Bob the next evening, May 30, 1948. After 2 years in Commerce the Nowlin's moved to Hondo, TX for a few years and ended up here in Haltom City in 1959.
Bob and Wiloydean raised Bobby (Robert Earl) and JoAnn in Haltom Road Baptist Church. Wiloydean was always on call for church members-even taking an iron and ironing board over to help a friend in need. She was a member of WMU and served punch and cookies at many a VBS. She wasn't in the choir because Willie said she couldn't carry a tune in 2 tubs, But she always said, "When I get to Heaven, I just want to be able to sing a little."
Wiloydean was a talented seamstress, making most of the cloths she and JoAnn wore in the 60's and 70's. She and Bob enjoyed 41 years of marriage until his death in 1989. After several years of widowhood, her neighbor across the street introduced her to Ken Engel. Wiloydean and Ken spent the next 26 years sharing their lives.
Wiloydean is survived by her brother Willie, her son Bob and his wife Debbie, her daughter JoAnn, her 3 granddaughters: Kristina Haney and husband Mike, Jennifer Spera, and Stephanie Cartwright as well as her 3 great grandsons: Isaac, John and Collin. All of her nieces and nephews as well as Ken Engel, his daughter Karla and husband Fred, his son Mark and wife Joyce, daughter Beth and husband Chris, son John and friend Stephanie, and his daughter Karen.
Now, WIloydean is "singing just a little."
