She graduated from Ten Sleep High School and then went to Billings Business School. She married Alvin Olson Apland and together they had three children, Tammy, Gary and Jere. Her husband preceded her in death in February of 1969. With children to support, Myrona went to Casper College to pursue a career in nursing.
