Obituary of Ethel Byram Gilland
Mrs. Gilland, 97, of Charlotte, NC passed away at Carolinas Medical Center-Charlotte. She was born on March 22, 1916 in Charlotte, NC daughter of the late Orin Holland Byram and Lillie Louise Stephens Byram. Mrs. Gilland grew up in the Wilmore community and was a lifelong active member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where she volunteered with Loaves & Fishes since 1984.
Mrs. Gilland loved to cook for her family, friends and church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gilland was preceded in death by her husband Jim, who she married on June 21, 1936; brothers, Robert Byram, Kenneth Byram, Floyd Byram, and Hazel (Buddy) Byram. She is survived by her sons, James Ivan Gilland and Jeannie and Timothy Allen Gilland and Joyce, as well as grandchildren, Julie Hubbard, Scott Gilland, Jonathan Gilland and Claire Brigner and 7 great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 512 West Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening, March 7, 2014 from 5:00 until 8:00 at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Loaves & Fishes, c/o Calvary United Methodist Church, 512 West Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
