Prominent Star Valley Pioneer Dies Wednesday
Charles G. Heiner, prominent farmer and pioneer of Star Valley passed away at the Star Valley Hospital Wednesday April 7th after a lingering illness of several months.
Mr Heiner was one of the oldest men in Star Valley and would have been 84 years of age on July 7. He has lived in Star Valley for fifty-seven years and has watched it grow from a few log cabins which the early settlers built to our fine prosperous Star Valley of today.
The body will be at the Mortuary in Afton until Saturday morning when it will be taken to his home to lie in state until the time of services which will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the North Ward chapel. Burial will be in the Bedford cemetery.
Surveyed and layed out the Bedford Cemetery and gave the town part of the land for it.
He has held various civic positions in the town and county, among them the following; He was the first postmaster of Bedford and held that position for nine years. When the school district was organized he was one of the trustees, a position he held for 20 years and he ws a trustee of District No. 19 for three years. He was justice of the peace of the Bedford precinct for 22 years. He was commissioned a Notary Public 1900 and retained it until 1944 and was in the legislature for three terms.
Celebrated golden Wedding
In 1926 Mr and Mrs Heiner moved to Afton and they have maintained their beautiful home here until his death. Mr and Mrs Heiner had the privilege of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on June 3rd 1945 at the home of their son Carl at Bedford. Mrs Heiner preceded him in death on November 29th 1946 at the age of 72 years. Their only daughter, Mrs Adeline Stadtmueller also preceded him in death in 1936.
He leaves to mourn his loss four sons, Robert Charles Heiner, Carl G. Heiner, Joseph A. Heiner and Theodore M. Heiner all of Bedford, nineteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren, one brother in Germany and two nieces in New York.
Funeral services were held in the North Ward chapel under the direction of Bp. M.J. Austin.
