Nancy Kay Klein
June 26, 1947 ~ January 3, 2020

Nancy Kay Klein, the daughter of Edward M. and Margaret Marie (Hess) Christensen, was born on June 26, 1947, at home near Jacksonville, Iowa. She attended Harlan (Iowa) Public Schools and graduated from Harlan High School in 1965. On June 27, 1965, Nancy married Larry Clarence Klein at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville.

Along with raising her family, Nancy worked part-time at Brickyard Orchard, CDS, Easy Living Furniture, and Pexton Drug, all located in Harlan.

Nancy was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, where she and Larry had attended Saturday evening services for 30 years, and she helped with various women’s circles. A lifelong Harlan area resident, Nancy was known to be kind, soft-spoken, and welcoming. She was an excellent cook and good baker, and loved a good hamburger or cheeseburger. Nancy enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and mowing. As an animal lover, Nancy liked cats and most other animals, with the exception of snakes. She also was not fond of Larry’s red cars!

Nancy K. Klein died on Friday, January 3, 2020, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa. She had reached the age of 72 years, 6 months, and 8 days.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Donald Christensen, Larry Christensen, and Richard Christensen; and one sister, Jane Morrison. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Larry Klein of Harlan, Iowa; one son, Tracy (Rhonda) Klein of Omaha, Nebraska; one daughter, Marcy (Eddie) Paden of Syracuse, Nebraska; one brother, Roger (Joann) Christensen of Harlan, Iowa; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor Phillip Nielsen officiating. Casket bearers were Marcus Klein, Taylor Klein, Michael Klein, Megan Klein, Sydney Paden, and Hunter Paden. Burial was in the Jacksonville Cemetery, Jacksonville, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
