John was born March 1, 1921 in Greencastle. He was the son of John and Florence V (Carpenter) Stains. He attended Greencastle and Martinsburg, WV schools.
He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft and Culler Farm Implents, retiring in 1984 from Robert F Zeigler, Inc.
He was a veteran of WWII having served with the 73rd Troop Carrier Squadron of the US Air Force.
He was a member of the St. Mark's Luthran Church.
He was a life member of the Halfway Volunteer Fire Co. past president of the Mason Dixon Travelers Camping Club and a member of the Western Enterprise Fire Co and AARP.
Surviving are his wife Romona (Rock) Stains; two sisters Kathryn L Leedy and Dorothy E Armstrong.
