Mrs. Eva Lenora Norton Priddy, 89 of Bell Farm Rd., Harleyville passed away quietly at home on July 21, 2007 surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Priddy was born December 13, 1917, in Smithton, Missouri, a daughter of Elmer Allen Norton and Eva Rebecca Bradley Norton. She graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1936 and attended Central Business College in Sedalia, Missouri. On October 22, 1939, she married Paul Owen Priddy, who preceded her in death on September 2, 1976. For the past seven decades, Mrs. Priddy has made her home in Dorchester County. For 15 years she worked as a clerk at Engelberg's in Ridgeville. In July 1964 she became an entrepreneur, community leader, and business woman when she opened Priddy's Department Store, which she managed until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of the Harleyville Methodist Church, where she served for 20 years as President of the United Methodist Women and belonged to the Good Will Circle. Mrs. Priddy was also a member of the Tuesday Afternoon Book Club, the Red Hat Hunnies, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the Order of the Eastern Star where she was a Past Worthy Matron. She is a Trustee and was Treasurer of the Harleyville Cemetery from 1974 to 2005. For nearly three decades, Mrs. Priddy also served as a volunteer at the MacDougal Correctional Facility, and was recognized in 1989 as a Volunteer of the Year by the SCDOC.

Survivors include five children (and spouses), Paul Raymond Priddy, Harleyville, LaVonne Marie (Holcombe) Bell, Harleyville, Col. Ronald Norton (Kathy) Priddy USAF (Ret.), Fairfax, VA, Eva Rebecca Becky Leavitt, Jacksonville, FL, and Russell Allen (Liesa) Priddy, Immokalee, FL; two siblings, Bertha Lavon Snyder, Marion, OH and Herman Ray Norton, Sedalia, MO; eleven grandchildren (and spouses), Lynne' Bell Watson, Rodney (Cheryl) Bell, Billie Rae Priddy (David) Etheridge, Rene' Priddy, Randall (Jacque) Priddy, Michael Priddy, Richard Priddy, Craig Leavitt, Dana Leavitt, Alexander Priddy, and Allison Priddy; nine great-grandchildren, Danielle Watson, Ashleigh Watson, Hunter Watson, Lindsey Swicegood, Amie Swicegood, Logan Bell, Dawson Bell, Brayden Priddy, and Laney Switzer; and a multitude of extended relatives and dear friends.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Priddy was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Melvin Garnet Norton, Brice Everett Norton, Harold Elmer Norton, and Gordon Emerald Norton; one sister, Opal Ernestine Norton; and one granddaughter, Bobbie Lorraine Bell.
