Douglas Alan Gundlach, 37, of Silt, died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, July 19.Doug was born on Jan. 7, 1969, in Skokie, Ill., to Alan and Carol Gundlach. The family moved to Las Vegas, Nev., when he was 3 years old and he attended public school there, as well as two years of college at UNLV.
He was a professional bartender for many years and worked at various casinos and restaurants in Las Vegas, and prior to his passing, at the Superbowl in New Castle, where he made many good friends. His quick wit, friendly smile, and lemon meringue pie and Jagermeister shots were always welcomed and appreciated.Doug was a rabid Chicago Cubs fan and a master of trivia, as well as an amateur gourmet cook.
He was a family man and best friend extraordinaire, and lived for his wife and four daughters. He would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need, and was the first to donate his time and endless energy for any good cause. He is greatly missed by all who had the privilege to have known him.
Survivors include his wife Ashley, 25, daughters Heather, 9, Peyton, 8, Makyla, 8, and Addison, 14 months. Other survivors are his mother and father, brothers Dennis, Paul, and Mike, and sisters Nicole and Kristen.
There will be a viewing at Farnum-Holt Funeral Home in Glenwood Springs on Monday, July 24, from 5-8 p.m. Friends are welcome to bring any mementos they may wish to leave with the family or to remain with Doug. Interment will occur at a later date to be decided in Las Vegas.
A memorial to celebrate Doug's life will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at the Superbowl in New Castle. His friends and family are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ashley Gundlach/Doug Gundlach Memorial Fund at any Alpine Bank location.
