Mary A. Umbaugh daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Doak was born in Beaver County Pennsylvania on March 7, 1847. From Pennsylvania the family moved to Virginia, and in the year 1850 they came to Lee County Iowa where they lived until 1858. Then they moved to Wapello County Iowa where the deceased lived on the old homestead until 1912, when she moved to Hedrick and lived here until her death.
She was married to Hampton H. Umbaugh on February 26, 1874 and to this union were born 3 chidlren, of whom 1 daughter, Iva preceded her mother to the great beyond.
The survivors are Wallace R. Umbaugh and Mrs. Daisy DeSelm both of Hedrick.
Mrs. Umbaugh died on Friday January 6 1922 aged 74 years, 9 months and 29 days, leaving to mourn her loss, her hunband and 2 children and 2 granchildren; Helen and Dorothy Umbaugh, also one brother R.W. Doak and a large number of friends who will sincerely mourn her passing. She was a loving wife and mother and one of those old fashioned neighbors whose hand was always ready to help any in distress.
The funeral was held Sunday from the home, conducted by Rev. Hugh Owen pastor of the local Presbyterian church and interment was made in the Brooks Cemetery. The pallbearers were 6 nephews of the deceased--Harry, Alfred, Ray and Frank Doak, Phillip Umbaugh and Frank Neff. Relatives present at the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Doak, of Davenport, E.R. Umbaugh of Princeville, Ill and Phillip Umbaugh of Des Moines.
