Essie was born May 5, 1928 in Burke County, to the Late Ellis Hudson and Mary Fidel Rector Hudson.
Mrs. Shook was a longtime member of Northside Baptist Church in Granite Falls. She worked in textiles and retired from Shuford Mills, Inc.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James A. Carver, her second husband Burlis Shook, granddaughter, Renee Minton, two sons-in-law, Terry Bryant and Harold Bean; three brothers, Back, Pinkney, and Oscar Hudson, three sisters, Margie Brittain, Viola Hudson and Mary Pennell.
Survivors include one son, James A. Carver, Jr. of Conover, six daughters, Mary Triplett and husband, Dee of Granite Falls, Faye Waters and husband Ronnie of Hudson, Kathy Barr and husband Marshall of Lenoir, Pauline Wise and husband Paul of Hickory, Rebecca "Becky" Stout and husband Richard of Hickory and Eunice "Ann" Carver of Lenoir. Also surviving are one sister, Arlene Hudson of Morganton, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and fourteen great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Essie Mae Hudson Carver Shook will be held Wednesday January 1, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at Northside Baptist Church with Rev. Howard Michaels and Rev. Lance Main officiating. Interment will follow in the Northside Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at Northside Baptist Church.
