Dr. William Percy Hytche Sr., 79, beloved patriarch and 10th president of Eastern Shore University in Princess Anne, Md., passed away Sunday, July 15, 2007, at his residence in Princess Anne, Somerset County, Maryland. Visitation will be to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at McDowell Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 18, at the Ella Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center on the Eastern Shore Campus. Services will again be held Tuesday, July 24, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at Holsey Chapel CME Church, 1804 East 48th Street North.

Dr. Hytche was born in Fort Gibson, Wagoner County, Oklahoma to the late Goldmon Warren Hytche and Barthalonia Martha Wallace Hytche. He was educated in the public schools of Fort Gibson and Tullahasse, Oklahoma. He received his Bachelor of Science from Langston University and his Master of Science and Doctor of Education degrees from Oklahoma State University. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Metropolitan United Methodist Church, where he served as a lay speaker. Dr. Hytche was also president of the university for 21 years. During his tenure, he was appointed by President George Bush, Sr. to serve on the President's Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities Task Group.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Deloris J. Hytche, of Princess Anne, Md.; son, William P. Hytche Jr. and wife, Donna, of Nashville; daughters, Pamela Hunter and husband, Pastor Jimmy Hunter, of Waco and Jaqueta Hytche Simms, of Tulsa, Okla.; grandsons, William P. Hytche, Minister Jamison Hunter and Devlin Hytche Simms; granddaughter, J'Naudia Hunter Phillips; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
