Approaching 76 years of age, Joseph Buchmayer recently passed away on Jan. 29 at the home of his son, Frank, seven miles south of Solon. This good pioneer was laid to rest Wednesday in Oakland cemetery, Solon. Rev. Vaclav Hlavate, of Cedar Rapids, officiated.

Mr. Buchmayer was born in Bohemia on April 30, 1841. Though a Slav, his ancestors were of Germanic origin. He was married to Miss Annie Jelinek on April 5, 1864. He came to the United States on May 30, 1874, and lived on a homestead in Newport township ever since. The venerable pioneer had made his home with his son, Frank, in Newport in his declining days ...

Surviving are his widow, two sons and two daughters: Frank, of Newport, James, of Solon, Mesdames Edward Rinda, of West Branch, and J.B. Kasper of Newport.
