Betty Jean Bullock, 80, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2019, in Augusta, Georgia. She was born December 30, 1938, to Elton and Allie Fryar. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church where she played the piano for 70 years. She enjoyed playing the piano and traveling.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 27, 2019, at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Bill Foley officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Services are under the direction of McMillian Funeral Home.
She is survived by two sons, Mark Bullock and Justin Bullock; one daughter, Kimberly Robin Horton; one brother-in-law, Neil Johnson; one sister-in-law, Nada Bullock; one granddaughter, Amber Hill; and two great-granddaughters, Allie Horton and Ava Hill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Earl Bullock; her parents; one brother, Robert Fryar; and one sister, Eunice Johnson.
Pallbearers are Stan Kuykendall, Robert Allen Fryar, Keith Foster, Arnold Witt, Bob Maddox and Scott Derrick.

Betty was raised with two Siblings. She had one older sister, Eunice; and one older brother, Robert. Betty was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings. She and her siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young girl, Betty had a number of interests. Like most children, she enjoyed playing and making up games. She was curious about the world around her and was often eager to explore it. In her spare time she liked to read and play the piano. However, to Betty, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with her friends.
A typical teenager, Betty had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. She graduated from Buena Vista High School in 1955. She enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers. Her favorite class in high school was literature.
Always considered a "good" friend to those she knew, Betty enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during her lifetime. While growing up, some of her best friends were Doris and Betty Jane. Later in life, she became friends with Brother Bill and Latane Foley, and her church family.
Empathic and loyal, Betty was committed to making her new family happy.
Betty worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. Betty was blessed with three chidlren, two sons, Mark and Justin; and one daughter, Kimberly Robin. Another blessing for Betty was the gift of one granddaughter, Amber.
Fortunately, Betty enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Betty worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Her primary occupation was a factory worker. She was employed for 25 years by Genesco. Betty always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Betty enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were reading, playing the piano, and traveling. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others.
Betty found pleasure in sports. Betty was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following her favorite events whenever she had the chance to do so. Tops on her list were college basketball and football.
Betty's faith was important to her. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church for 49 years. During that time, she was the church pianist.
Betty enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for her to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included Biloxi, MS; the Grand Canyon; and the Smokie Mountains.
Betty was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. One of her favorites was a German Shepard Dog. Her family was rounded out by her cat Sudie and others.
When Betty's retirement finally arrived in the 1980's after the closing of the shoe factory, she was well prepared. In retirement, she found new pleasure in playing the piano, going to church, and traveling with her daughter. Even in retirement, Betty continued to stay in touch with her old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Betty was active in her new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered her.
Betty passed away on December 21, 2019 at the University Healthcare Hospital in Augusta, GA, after a brief illness.
