John Tucker Bell was born on September 8, 1872 in Wilson County, Tennessee, and he was the son of Hardin Bell (1838–1889) and Martha Adeline "Lina" (Dice) Bell (1842–1900).

He was married 1st in Jan 1895 in Davidson County, Tennessee to Hattie Mai Pomeroy (1878–1900), and she was the daughter of John Henry Pomeroy (1848–1887) and his wife Nancy Sarah "Nannie" (McCanless) Pomeroy (1856–1934). John was married 2nd on March 27, 1904 in Sumner County as the 2nd husband of Maggie B (Troutt) Duncan (1877–1968), the daughter of John Albert Troutt (1850–1933) and Nancy Cooper "Nannie" (Wiseman) Troutt (1852–ca 1893).

A self-employed carpenter living at 2317 Winford Avenue in Nashville, John was 82 years old and married when he died at home of myocarditis on September 2, 1955. Burial was the next day in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville.
