Frederick William "Fred" "Freddy" VanSickle, 76, of McHenry, MD, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV, surrounded by his family.
Born February 24, 1940, in Cranesville, MD, he was the son of the late Everett William and Mary (Hoye) VanSickle. He was also preceded in death by one brother, James Ora VanSickle.
Mr. VanSickle was a supervisor for the Garrett Co. Roads Department, retiring after 30 years of service. Fred was an active farmer in McHenry and enjoyed farming full-time after his retirement. He enjoyed wagon training and watching the family compete with their horses and cattle.
Fred attended Northern High School and St. Peter's at the Lake Church. He was a member of the Garrett County Fair Board.
Fred is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cissy VanSickle; his children, Bill, Jeff and wife, Mary, Tom, Mike, LaDonna, Heather Miller and Jason and wife, Kym; seven grandchildren, Ashley and husband, Robert Reeves, Travis and Kelsey VanSickle, Kyle and Megan Sherbin, Shaila VanSickle and Cash VanSickle; two great-grandchildren, Bryson and Wyatt Reeves; one sister, Martha Wyckoff and husband, Chuck and their children, Rebel and Kevin.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 26722 Garrett Highway, McHenry (Accident), on Sunday from 1-3 and 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday, February 13, 2017, at 10:30 am with Pastor Jonathan Moon officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date in the VanSickle Family Cemetery.
