The Smithville Herald, Smithville, Mo. 12-17-1908:
CAVANAUGH. (Communicated)
Mrs. Gertie Cavanaugh, wife of Patrick Cavanaugh, was born in West Virginia March 4, 1872 and died in Leavenworth Nov. 22, 1908. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. H. Fleshman of Tracy, Mo., both of whom she leaves to mourn her loss. She also leaves a husband and eight children, besides a host of friends to mourn her loss. She was a faithful wife, a kind and loving mother, and was esteemed by all who knew her. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church, having joined in Virginia in her early days. Funeral services were conducted by Eld. Davis at the home of her parents in Tracy amid a large circle of friends and relatives after which interment was made in the Platte City cemetery. She will be sadly missed in the home. Her aged parents, sisters and brother, and friends all feel a sense of great loss in her going away. God knows best. Some day we'll understand. In the real noontide of life the white winged messenger surrounded her and wafted her sweet spirit to that land of eternal sunshine.
