Ruth Ernestine McGlothlin Blankenship, age 70, of Montvale, Virginia, formerly of Rowe, Virginia passed away Tuesday (December 17, 2019) in Thaxton, Virginia. Born January 25, 1949 in Russell County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Powers and Carmie Lester McGlothlin. She had resided in Rowe, Virginia most of her life, moving to Montvale one year ago. She had been employed as a seamstress for Jacqueline Manufacturing in Richlands, Virginia and Honaker Mills in Honaker, Virginia. She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, tending to her flowers and riding four wheelers with her friends.
Survivors include two children, Denise Keen and husband, Andy and Rebecca Sargent and husband, William; grandson, Preston Gilbert; special companion, Cecil Shelton; children at heart, Kayla Taylor, Lora Osborne and Julie Sutherland; sister, Catherine “Susie” Compton; best friend, Dana Davis and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of Centra Hospice of Bedford for the wonderful care they provided.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Harvey Hess, Jeff Hess, Randy Keen and Stevie Lester officiating. Interment will follow in the Sandy Ridge Cemetery at Drill, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Ken Davis, James Davis, Channing Cook, Will Jennings, Stevie Lester and Jeff Hess.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dana Davis, Sue Davis, Kathy Davis, Sharon Cook, Debra Jennings and Lisa Blankenship.
The family will receive friends at Honaker Funeral Home from 10:00 AM Saturday until the funeral hour.
