Sharon E. Flaherty, age 82 of Charleston and formerly of Sullivan, Illinois, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, December 14, 2019. Graveside Services, honoring and celebrating her life, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon with Pastor Ken Hoover officiating. Thoughtful donations in her honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Association or to a charity of the donor's choice. Gifts may be mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.

Sharon was born June 2, 1937 in Mattoon, Illinois, a daughter of the late Francis Marion and Alpha (Lawson) Eaton. She married Jesse Pryor in August of 1970, and following his death, she later married Robert Flaherty who also preceded her. She is survived by her sisters, Marvel “Mickey” Carrell and Angela Young, both of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by a sister, Judi Craig.

Sharon was a graduate of Mattoon High School and furthered her education at Eastern Illinois University where she attained both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Clinical Psychology. She received her RN from the Decatur Macon County Hospital nursing program. She worked as an RN at Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home and the Mattoon Hospital. Sharon was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and attended the Assembly of God Church in Mattoon. She was an exceptional nurse who was devoted to her career and loved her family dearly.
