He was born in Fecamp, Seine-Maritime, Upper Normandy, France. Mauger married (1) Hedwig Coeur en Auge of Normandie and (2) Germaine de Corbeil, daughter of Ayman, Count of Corbeil and his wife, Elizabeth. Mauger obtained the title of Count of Corbeil in right of his second wife, who is also the mother of Hamon Dentatus. The properties that went to his son, Hamon Dentatus, gives an indication of the wealth of Mauger of his own right.
