A Memorial Gathering for Elenora “Nora” Carey, age 92, of Albert Lea, will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Nora died on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Thorne Crest Senior Living Community in Albert Lea.
Elenora Ione Carey was born on September 3, 1927 in Ireton, IA to Elmer and Sylvia (McCormick) DeRaad. She grew up in Hollandale and attended school in Hollandale and Albert Lea. On January 13, 1948, Nora was united in marriage to Leo Carey in Albert Lea. In 1950, the couple moved to West St. Paul where she worked as an accounting clerk and taught drivers ed through the State of Minnesota. Nora was very proud of her job as a driving instructor. In 1980 they returned to Albert Lea. Together, Nora and Leo loved to travel, especially being snowbirds and spending winters in a warmer climate. Nora also loved music and she played the steel guitar and organ.
Survivors include her daughters, Judy Carey of Washington, and Ellen (Larry) Niebur of Clear Lake, IA; granddaughter, Carrie (Eric) Eisnaugle of Orlando, FL; grandson, Keith (Sara) Niebur of Bettendorf, IA; six great grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Stundahl.
Nora was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; parents, Elmer and Sylvia; sisters, Marilyn Abbe, Lillian Snider, Starlene Anderson, Helen Waltz, and Gloria Vinge; and brothers, Delbert and Merril DeRaad.
