W. R. Kragh, Major County pioneer, died at an Enid hospital Wednesday morning at 5:30 a.m. following a three weeks illness.
For the past six years he has been suffering from a serious heart condition and for the past three weeks had been confined to his bed. Last Friday he was taken to an Enid hospital, and while his condition was known to be serious, he seemed to be resting quite well last night and his death was more or less unexpected at this time.
Kragh made the run from Kiowa, Kansas, into the Cherokee Strip, homesteading at 21 Crossing. He later moved from his homestead to a farm near Sherman where he lived until 1923.
In 1923 Kragh moved to Fairview in order that he might accept an appointment as deputy sheriff, serving under Lew Burwell. At the expiration of this appointment he retired, and remained so up until his death.
He was affiliated with the Masonic Lodge and was a charter member of the Quinlan chapter.
Survivors include his wife of the home, five children, Mrs. Harry Main, Cherokee, Oklahoma, Walter R. Kragh, Jr., Little Rock, Arkansas, Lawrence Kragh, Chester, Oklahoma, Clifford Kragh, Fairview, Oklahoma and Cecil Kragh, Belva, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren, two brothers, Charlie Kragh of Long Island, New York, and Andrew Kragh of Kansas City; three sisters, Sarah Pimm, Oregon, Jewell Hooker, Washington D. C. and Annie Barrie, of Attica, Kansas; and three step-children, Mrs. Gladys Wells, Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Helen Cronkhite, Seiling, Oklahoma and Mrs. George Dean, Fairview, Oklahoma.
