3 I. E. Teen-Agers Die in Auto Smash
OMAK, Wash., May 8 - Three north central Washington teen-agers died violent deaths today after they were thrown from a car flying out of control on highway 10A between Nespelem and Coulee Dam. The auto carrying seven youths careened out of control for nearly 600 feet, rolling over several times before coming to rest.
Nadine Welpah, 13, Nespelem, died instantly when the car came to rest on top of her, investigating highway patrol officers said.
Marilyn Atkinson, 17, Elmer City, and Gabriel Orr, 17, Omak, died later. Orr lived for several hours suffering hip, back and head injuries.
In Coulee Dam hospital are Kenneth Goujon, 20, Omak, driver of the car; Margaret White, 13, Nespelem; Yvonne Goujon, 14, Coulee Dam, and Larry Quintasket, 17, Omak. All were reportedly in good condition.
Okanogan county deputy sheriff Fred Horner said the car was traveling from Nespelem toward Coulee Dam about 2 a.m., apparently at high speed, when the driver lost control on a gentle curve and the car went out of control. It was demolished.
Investigators reported all seven of the youths were thrown from the auto.
