David Ray Shanks, 64, of Chillicothe, Ill. died December 6, 2019 at his residence due to complications of cancer.
David was born April 6, 1955 to Lewis Everett and Mary Katherine Shanks in Taylorville, Ill.
David graduated from high school in Rolla, Mo. He was a certified brake mechanic and truck driver.
He married Judy Cook and later divorced. They had two children: David Andy Shanks and Corey Shanks, both of Tuscon, Ariz. David then married DeEtta Shanks and had two more children: Dakoda Shanks and Dalton Shanks both of Chillicothe, Ill.
David served in the Army for several years and eventually retired as a truck driver. He loved to fish, hunt and to be outdoors, and spend time with Diamond, his dog companion.
David was survived by his wife DeEtta Shanks of Chillicothe, Ill.; children: Andy Shanks and Corey Shanks, both of Tuscon, Ariz., Kody Shanks and Dalton Shanks, both of Chillicothe, Ill.; brothers: Lewis (Tina) Shanks of Waverly, Ill., Robert (DeeAnne) Shanks of Taylorville, Ill., Frank (Lek) Shanks of Alamogordo, New Mexico; sisters: Rose Akley and Mary Akley, both of Rolla, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rita Caudill and brothers, Lonnie Akley and Jim Akley preceded him in death.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
