Herschel S. Hughes
June 18, 1938 - December 08, 2019 Herschel S. Hughes, 81 of Connersville passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Reid Health in Richmond. He was born on June 18, 1938 to the late Madison Jackson Hughes and Oma Lucas Hughes in Fayette County.
He was a member of Community Christian Gospel Church in Connersville.
On July 11, 1958, he married Bonnie Clark Hughes in Sandsprings, Kentucky.
Herschel served for 3 years in the National Guard and was on standby for the Army reserves for 7 years.
He had worked at D&M for 35 years, then went onto work for Elco Tex Ron for another 7 years before retiring in 2004.
Herschel would often be found traveling around Indiana to look for covered bridges to stop and take photographs and to admire them. He enjoyed listening to music and whether it was working on his rose bushes or watching the hummingbirds he loved to be outdoors. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Along with his wife of 61 years he is survived by one daughter, Debra (George) Buckles; two sons, Danny (Tina) Hughes and Jeff Hughes; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two brothers, William (Loretta) Hughes and Cletus (Wilma) Hughes.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his three sons, Jimmy Hughes, Brian Hughes and David Hughes.
Visitation for Herschel will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2019 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W. 8th St. Connersville, Indiana 47331. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Reverend Robert E. Lee and Ronnie Philpot officiating. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery.
