Grandma Cook Dead.

DIED – October 3, 1893, at 7 o’clock, p.m. at the residence of Milos G. Cook, corner of Sixth and Bell Streets, Laura Bessey Cook, aged 76 years, 8 months and 8 days. The funeral will be from the residence, Thursday, Oct. 5, at 10 o’clock, a.m.

Mrs. Cook was born in Marcellus, N. Y. Jan. 25, 1817. At the age of 13 she moved with her parents to Wastenau Co, Mich., where she lived until at the age of 19 she was married to Caleb W. Cook, whose constant companion she was for over 55 years, until his death, March 1, 1891. Since that time she has lived with her son, Milon G. Cook, who has done everything possible to make her last days pleasant and comfortable.

In the loss of her husband, Mrs. Cook seemed to lose all desire and pleasure of living, and the loneliness occasioned by his loss, and the unavoidable breaking up of her own home in her advanced age and feeble condition so unbalanced her mind that at times she was not responsible for her own acts.

Mrs. Cook was the mother of fourteen children, of whom but five are living – one son and four daughters.

She was born and raised, and nearly all her life was spent on the frontier, and while she had no educational advantages, she always proved herself a true woman, and while she never was a member of any church she was a natural Christian, a firm and practical advocate of the Commandments and Golden Rule.
