There is no known tombstone for George W. Calhoun. The Calhoun Cemetery in Noxubee County, Mississippi is close to the area where George lived and died. George's oldest child (Joseph Trimble Calhoun) is buried in the Calhoun Cemetery. There are many unmarked grave-like depressions in the Calhoun Cemetery. Mattie Virginia Dugan Lanier (1913-2000) remembered that as a child she went with her mother to clean the cemetery on an annual basis. At that time there were wooden markers and arbors for some grave sites in the cemetery. The wooden structures have long since disappeared due to decay and/or vandalism. It is believed that several members of the Calhoun and Dugan families from Noxubee County are buried in unmarked graves in this cemetery. It is probable that George W. Calhoun is buried in an unmarked grave in the Calhoun Cemetery.
